The United Scenic Artists, Local USA 829, Art Department Coordinator Exam is a screening process for admitting those individuals looking to advance their career in the Art and Set Decoration Departments of professional film and television projects. We are looking for persons with practical experience. This category is not looking for applicants who are merely interested in learning what Art Department Coordinators do, but rather those who are already working within the Art and related departments.

What are the steps of the examination process?
Step One: All applicants going through the exam process begin with a standardized application facilitated through the SurveyMonkey Apply platform. Applicants begin the process by submitting the union application form and an application and filing fee ($200). Upon submission of these materials, the candidate’s eligibility for membership is verified by the USA 829 Business Office.
Step Two: The applicant then submits a comprehensive resume detailing work experience, education, and relevant skills and three letters of recommendation from industry professionals (one of which must be from a USA 829 member in good standing). There are also supplemental materials that an applicant must provide depending on the craft.
For the Art Department Coordinator category, candidates must submit an essay discussing their experience and interest in becoming an Art Department Coordinator.
Step Three: The final step involves taking a ninety minute (90-minute) written practical exam. Based on successful completion of the written exam, you will be interviewed by a panel of working coordinators. They will review and discuss your résumé and application materials with you and discuss your work-related experience. In addition, your practical exam results will be discussed with you.
