The Local USA 829 Wellness Committee collects and discusses health and safety concerns of members and advocates for solutions. We educate members about risks and safe procedures and facilitate the establishment of appropriate health and wellness programs, education, and training. We also provide wellness resources to improve and foster healthy practices both on and off the job.

We aim to encourage safety awareness and help improve health and wellness.  If you have a resource that you think would benefit our community, please reach out to us at wellness@usa829.org.

My Awareness Coach (iphone only): Thoughts have power! This app is used to choose where you want to put your conscious awareness throughout your day. It acts as a coach to gently guide you to more focus and awareness in the present moment which enhances every area of life. Use it to expand your mental space and access your life energy and spiritual nature- something everyone has. This app is designed to decrease unhelpful thoughts patterns and behaviors and increase and reinforce skillful responses to improve everyday life fulfillment with work, family, and every other area of life. Choose a personal awareness reminder by typing it in or try one from the list provided.  

The Tapping Solution: Tapping, also known as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), is a powerful holistic healing technique that has been proven to effectively resolve a range of issues. It is based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology. 

Insight Timer: InsightTimer is the best meditation app with the world's largest FREE library of more than 130k guided meditations, 14k teachers, and the world's most loved meditation timer. 

Headspace: Headspace was started with one mission: to improve the health and happiness of the world. Through science-backed meditation and mindfulness tools, Headspace helps you create life-changing habits to support your mental health and find a healthier, happier you. Meditation has been shown to help people stress less, focus more and even sleep better. Headspace is meditation made simple. It will teach you the life-changing skills of meditation and mindfulness in just a few minutes a day. 

Apple’s Breathe App (Apple Watch): The Mindfulness app on your Apple Watch encourages you to set aside a few minutes a day to focus, center, and connect as you breathe. With an Apple Fitness+ subscription, you can listen to guided Meditations on Apple Watch. 

Calm: The Calm app offers studio programs taught by world-renowned mindfulness experts. The video lessons on mindful movement and gentle stretching are accompanied by exclusive music to help users focus, relax, sleep and the app also teaches meditation. ($) 

Exhale: Exhale is the first emotional wellbeing app for and by Black, Indigenous women of color (BIWOC). The app inspires self-care, mindfulness and rest through content curated by BIWOC -- including meditations, coaching talks, affirmations, guided visualizations and breath work. 

Shine: Designed for millennials and young professionals, this app motivates users to make self-care a priority. The app also stands out for including specialized content for BIPOC communities. Shine is a self-care app that inspires users to look after their mental health with the help of meditation, gratitude exercises and journaling. The app sends users new motivational messages and articles daily, as well as a meditation session. 

Breathwrk: Learn how to breathe with Breathwrk. Breathwrk is a simple yet powerful way to alleviate stress and anxiety, fall asleep faster, energize yourself, or improve endurance. Learn and feel the power of breathing with guided exercises that are backed by science and research. This app teaches the same techniques used by Olympic Athletes, Psychologists, Yoga Experts, Navy SEALs, and Zen Masters.

 

Sleep Cycle: Sleep is the platform on which nutrition, exercise and mindfulness reside. But these pillars for your health aren’t nearly as efficient if your sleep’s not working. Track your sleep with Sleep Cycle, an app that analyzes your sleep and wakes you up at the most perfect time. The app helps you to wake up when you are at your lightest sleep, leaving you feeling well-rested and not grumpy in the morning. 

SleepScore: SleepScore uses sonar technology to measure sleep habits from your nightstand. ResMed, the developer of SleepScore, has studied sleep for over a decade to provide expert advice and sleep insights. The app sends sonar waves from your phone to measure your breathing and any sounds, which allow it to track light, deep, and REM sleep and identify when you wake up during the night. The app formulates a sleep score to attach an objective number to your sleep quality to help with setting goals for better sleep. 

 

Strava: Designed by athletes, for athletes, Strava's mobile app and website connect millions of runners and cyclists through the sports they love. 

FitoTrack (android only/download on Google Play): FitoTrack is a mobile app for logging and viewing your workouts. Whether you’re running, cycling or hiking, FitoTrack will show you the most important information with detailed charts and statistics. It is open-source and completely ad-free. 

Pacer (iphone only): Get active, lose weight, and feel great! Track your steps 24/7 with just your phone using Pacer’s simple interface. 

Apple Health (iphone only): The Apple Health app allows users to organize and access all of their information in one place, syncing across all devices and third-party apps. Track everything from excessive noise exposure to blood and cholesterol pressure and from weight and exercise to fertility cycles. 

 

Clue: A hormone and/or period tracking app which uses inclusive language, offers gender-expansive access information, and doesn’t come in a pink flowered theme. For people across the entire gender spectrum. For trans men who get periods, trans women who want to pay attention to how their HRT is otherwise affecting their health, for non-binary folks who want to pay attention to how their cycles affect them, and everyone else. 

 

Timeshifter: Travel is part of your life. Jet lag doesn't need to be. With Timeshifter, you can beat jet lag as it helps you to adjust your biological clock to a destination’s time zone quickly. You can create your own personalized jet lag plans and arrive at your destination with ease. 

Uplift: This app uses a slightly different method to help jet-lagged travelers reset: biorhythmic acupressure. Once you fill in your trip itinerary (departure and arrival cities, dates and times), Uplift gives you a few exercises to do upon landing with an instructional video, which includes putting pressure on different points on your body for a minute here and a minute there, helping your body adjust naturally to the new time zone. 

BetterSleep: BetterSleep features sound categories that include animal, city, music, nature, binaural beats and ASMR. You can layer several sounds at once, adjusting the volume of each until you achieve your ideal medley of city rain, Zen piano and cat purrs — or whatever white noise will lull you into a deep sleep. 

StopJetLag: This app provides personalized advice for travelers to reset their body clocks and beat jet lag by telling them when and when not to sleep, when to seek out light, when and what to eat (including the size of each meal), when to exercise, when to drink caffeine and more. 

 

Streaks: Streaks is the to-do list that helps you form good habits. Every day you complete a task, your streak is extended. Choose or create up to twelve tasks, such as: walk the dog, floss your teeth, eat healthily, practice Spanish.

Remember the Milk: This app is a task-organizing app that can help teens and adults juggle long to-do lists, complicated schedules, and multiple project deadlines.
