On Thursday, June 14, the USA 829 Diversity Committee hosted a
meet-up between Broadway Designers & Associates, and fellow
union members who are interested in working as Assistants and/or
Associates on Broadway. The meet-up took place at MTC in Rehearsal
Studio 3, followed by an after-party at Propstar. The goal of this
event was to encourage designers working on Broadway to diversify
their assistant pools, and to foster community building.
Co-chair Dante Olivia Smith (LD), and committee members
Wilson Chin (SD), Porsche McGovern (LD) and Jane Shaw (SN)
were on hand to facilitate quick 1-on-1 conversations among the
nearly 70 guests. Following the 1-on-1 conversations, everyone was
invited to Kathy Fabian’s (SD) shop, Propstar, where conversations
continued with refreshments provided by the Union. Across the
entire, event conversation was lively and the overall feedback was a
desire for more events that foster community within our union.
Special thanks to Lara De Bruijn (CD), Rachel Hauck (SD), Caite
Hevner (PJN), Kelsey Harro (ADC), and especially Kathy Fabian
(SD). Stay tuned for more initiatives from the Diversity Committee
focused on the goals of expanding networks and building
community within our industry.
Please email the Diversity Committee if you are interested in getting involved.
