EXAM INFO - EASTERN REGION: IN NYC
NOTE:

MAC USERS:
Do not use the "Preview" program installed on all MACs by default. You MUST install and use Adobe Reader, available for free at:
http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/ because if you use "Preview" your file will become corrupted and your typed-in data will be lost. Only Adobe Reader will work! Remember to tell your References this when sending them a Recommendation Form to fill in: ADOBE READER ONLY!
The most common way to gain membership in the Union in the Eastern Region (NYC) is by way of individual Category Exam / Interviews, as described below. See HOW TO JOIN [left] for information on the Professional Membership Application process, and see APPRENTICE PROGRAM FOR SCENIC ARTISTS [left] for details on that program. (Please NOTE: USA 829 has an Apprenticeship Program FOR SCENIC ARTISTS ONLY. There is NO SIMILAR PROGRAM FOR ANY DESIGNER CATEGORY).

In addition to the Exams given in all categories on a regular basis in New York City, the Eastern Region now gives limited Exams in New England and Washington DC for those who live and work in those areas. See EXAMS > EASTERN REGION: OUTSIDE NYC [left] for details.

NOTE TO PROJECTION DESIGNERS:

There is currently no formal Exam/Interview procedure for admitting members into the new Projection Design category. Working Projection Designers may join the union via the Professional Membership Application procedure (see How to Join) or by contacting the Business Representative for Live Production – currently Carl Mulert – in the NY Business Office at 212-581-0300 to arrange a review of the Projection Designer’s résumé and other portfolio materials.

Please contact the NY Office for more specific information.
